August House – Tabla Rasa

August House - Tabla Rasa

Tabla Rasa, August House

On Tabla Rasa August House delivers Indie Rock that doesn’t go overboard into metal and avoids the old cliche riffs and classic hard rock pitfalls. Many of the songs sport intelligent lyrics that are sung instead of just screamed into a microphone. The terrific rhythm section keeps the beat throbbing along. The guitars may be a little too distorted for our tastes, but we really like the overall effect and quality of the production. Some highlights: “In Creation” has a big anthem rock feel, without quite crossing that line. “Trumpets” has cool ear catching space, but no trumpets. By the end of the album you feel like you’ve really listened to something cool and then you have to decide if you want to listen again or just turn the player off and let the songs resonate in your head for a while first. The only criticism we have is that it may be a little too “Indie,” derivative of the same influences as many other Indie bands. We still like this one better than most of the similar stuff out there. They put on a great show live, too, so catch them if you get a chance.
