The Zen Barons, Into The Fire

The latest release from. The Zen Barons, Into the Fire showcases the bands cool 1980’s style rock
The ten tracks on this disc were recorded at Mile High Music with the help of engineer Scott Gries. The production is clean and powerful, resulting in the best recordings from this band to date. The disc slams into”Better” right off the bat and doesn’t let up. The whole CD has a big guitar sound to it. The rhythm section is tight and the vocals are clear. Scott Hadden’s vocals on “Better” have a perfect rock growl, while Jay Ruybal’s frantic, yet perfectly timed, drumming provides a rapid pulse. Scott Cooley’s bass lines throb and Mike Fackler’s guitar blazes out of the speakers. The rest of the tracks show off more of the same qualities, though none are quite as exciting as that first track. “Midnight” starts out slow, letting Hadden sing quietly then gradually build tension through cycles of power and calm. You can’t ask much more from a local band than this.
