Rebel Tongue  – Movin’ On

When I first heard about Rebel Tongue I was intrigued, to say the least, thinking about the combination of Azma Holiday joining forces with members of the Demon Funkies. I couldn’t even envision what this project would be like. By blending the talent of Azma, who is, in my opinion, far and away the best hip hop performer in Denver, along with the rock/funk/jazz talent of Michael Chiesa on saxaphone, Chris Murphy on drums, Jim Chiesa on trumpet, Scott Rolfs on guitar, and Justin Francoeur on bass, you get a completely unique style of hip-hop, funk, jazz, and soul.

Their debut album “Movin’ On” is great! From the moment I hit the play button on my CD player I was greeted with the sounds of funky hip-hop on the first track “Lose Hope” with Azma hitting the hip-hop hard, and then came the vocals reminiscent of a gospel church singer! I was blown away! Azma’s voice is smooth, melodic, charismatic, and it’s truly showcased in the song “Tell Them Why”.

By putting the hip-hop, funk, jazz, and soul together on this CD, Rebel Tongue is by far the first and best of this new genre to hit the stage in 2012. It’s the perfect combination, and if you don’t already own a copy of this CD, you need to get one!

I’m anxiously awaiting to see what 2013 brings for this powerhouse group!!

However, I do want to add there are a few four-letter words, just in case that’s not your style.
