Jill Stevenson Band

The Jill Stevenson Band, The Jill Stevenson Band

“Break me in like a shoe” are the first lyrics one hears on the new Jill Stevenson Band EP. Five original songs from the Colorado born singer/songwriter, and now band leader, Jill Stevenson. Notwithstanding the weird cover photo with Jill wearing a particularly masculine top-hat and the photo inside that screams “Why is she surrounded by a bunch of old guys?!” the music is a delightful trip through what we can only assume is Stevenson’s love life. Apparently, these old guys helped Stevenson bring her songs up a notch with great arrangements and a full, plush sound that makes us smile. The song “Six Weeks” features the line: “You don’t believe in love.” Based on that alone, we can only assume Miss Stevenson had a bitter-sweet relationship lasting about six weeks that, thankfully, resulted in a wonderful song. “Sugar Sweet,” is a delicious love song with really cool psychedelic keyboard work. This song makes me wish she was singing about me when she sings the lyrics “Tastes so good.” It’ll probably end up butchered and abused all over TV in a national restaurant commercial. The other songs are just as good, but we will make you listen to them yourself.
Buy this CD and then go to NYC to catch her live show. Oh, and take us with you, please.
