Backbone Velvet – Live

Backbone Velvet - Live

Backbone Velvet, Live

Backbone Velvet culled together 11 tracks from a half dozen or so performances at Herman’s Hideaway, had them mastered and put out this Live CD. There are a few shaky parts, which is to be expected in any live recording, but overall, it beats many local studio recordings we’ve heard. Sometimes hearing the applause and other crowd noises just makes the song feel more authentic. You can be certain they didn’t go into the studio and tweak the timing or redo any guitar solos. It’s all there just the way they played it those nights. All the tracks except for the last one (A steamy rendition of Steve Perry’s Lovin’, Touchin’, Squeezin’) are original numbers. There’s some funk, blues, rock, and a psychedelic feel to many of the tracks. The songs are cool, but mostly they serve as a vehicle to showcase Marri Jo’s spectacular vocal talents. Those vocals are what backbone velvet is based on and the best reason to listen to this CD. The rest of the band has plenty of opportunity to solo and show off, without stealing (or ruining) the show, too. This ain’t no radio mix.
We love it and strongly recommend that you buy yourself a copy.
