Right Here Is Now, from The Dick Jones is unquestionably the Coolest CD we’ve heard in a very long time. Deep bass lines pulsing along with low key vocals and wicked lead guitar work. Masterminded by Kyle Jones, who co-wrote most of the songs, he also recorded, arranged, produced and played bass on the entire album. song titles like “I’m still cooler (than your boyfriend)” say it all. The music tends towards funk and soul with groovy wierd sound effects thrown in just enough to grab your attention but not too much to ruin the song. It’s sort of a cross between Lenny Kravitz and Prince. Low point is “Track…” which seems to be an excercise in tuning. “You Say You” has nice backing vocals from Elizabeth Rose.
