Mountain Homegrown Volume 4, Various Artists – 99.5 The Mountain

Mountain Homegrown Volume 4 proves that you just can’t go wrong with a well played Beatles cover. Twelve fresh tracks, each from a different Colorado artist playing a Beatles cover. The CD is a delightful listen. It’s fun to hear old familiar tunes played well, but differently. Highlights include: The full blown string section on Christopher Jak’s “I’ll Follow The Sun.” Born In The Flood’s version of “I Am The Walrus” even includes quirky megaphone background tracks just like the original. Wendy Woo and her Crew play “Getting Better” and you can’t help but believe that it really is. Zeut rocks out on “Get Back.” We love hearing some of our favorite female vocalists singing these traditionally male songs. Chris Daniels offers up a solo acoustic bluesy version of “In My Life.” The Railbenders put a country twist on “Octopus’s Garden” and it’s so much fun, even Ringo would love it. Acoustic Firefall does a great job with “Come Together.” Hazel Miller will send chills down your spine with her a cappella rendition of “Let It Be” closing out the disk in top form.
Surprisingly, the CD is only available at Brothers Barbecue locations and we hear they’re selling fast. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to music programs at front range schools, so do a good thing for the future of music in Colorado and buy one.
