Party of One, John Nathan’s debut CD is a delightful country romp. Ten original songs self-produced by Nathan with help from Cricket on the Hill legend Baggs Patrick. This CD makes us smile from the first song to the last. “My Old Girlfriend Looks Like Hell” starts things off on a note any man can relate to. “Party of One,” the title track, makes fun of country dittys that take themselves too seriously. The guitar and vocals on “Every Wrong Turn” impress more with each listen. “Because You’re Mine” brightens things up after the dark and brooding “Back to the Womb.” It’s a refreshing change up. “Everybody’s Angel” is a perfect love song from a guy’s perspective.The strengths here are the songs. Well written snippets from life that could well apply to almost anyone. The grooves are cool and the hooks are memorable. The performances are right on the money. This is one of the best CDs we’ve heard all year.
