Barnstorm – Barnstorm

Barnstorm, Barnstorm

Barnstorm, the Self-titled CD features the musical skills of Matt Barnes with Tony Medina and a couple other guys on bass and drums. The best description for these eight tracks: Acoustic guitar rock with vocal harmonies. Barnstorm proves that you don’t need to plug in to rock. The songs all have thought provoking real-life lyrics that rhyme. That’s always a nice comfortable touch. The production quality is nothing to get excited about, but it doesn’t get in the way of the songs. We would have appreciated an insert and professional packaging, so we wouldn’t have to take the disc out of the player to see what the names of the songs are, but sometimes musicians can’t afford that kind of stuff and it makes this CD more of a diamond in the rough. “21” is about growing older, has memorable hooks and is possibly the best song of the bunch. “Lost & Found” is a country inspired ditty that’s just a good friendly listen. Overall. the performance is a little sloppy around the edges, like it was recorded live at the Cricket on the Hill, which is a distinct possibility, but the songs still shine through.
